Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is the most traditional form of Western massage, and for many in the United States, it’s the image associated with massage. Swedish massage, or classic massage as it called in some countries, is a relatively gentle massage form focused on the body’s superficial layers. It is provided to promote general relaxation and well-being and sometimes for relief for symptoms associated with health conditions. Swedish massage is also known to promote circulation. Among the areas of research: the potential of massage to improve blood pressure and other vital signs. In short, it’s gaining a reputation as more than just a stress-buster.

Oncology MLD and Massage

Oncology massage is the modification of massage therapy to safely work with the effects of cancer and cancer treatment. Everyone affected by cancer — people in active treatment, those in recovery or survivorship, those at the end of life, and even caregivers — can benefit from oncology massage. These benefits can include: respite from pain, nausea, fatigue, anxiety and depression.
Clinical assessments and adaptations to the massage session for someone affected by cancer are critical to providing a safe massage.
It is very important that you have been cleared for massage by your health care team before your appointment.
As a licensed RN I feel confident in working with this community. I always welcome Cape Wellness Collaborative Clients (CWC) to my practice!

Prenatal and Postnatal Massage

Prenatal massage is a great way for our pregnant women to relax, de-stress, reduce swelling and have sore muscles gently soothed.

The body is supported by special pillows.

This is a light pressure massage, but a very effective wellness tool, beneficial to both mom and baby.

If the client has uncomplicated swelling, manual lymphatic drainage is a very good tool.

I am always careful during intake to find out about any complications of pregnancy and it is also important to know that the client is cleared by her physician for massage.

Postnatal massage is not commonly discussed, but it is a great way for a woman to release swelling and start to feel back at “home” in her body again.

It can also be beneficial in supporting women who may be experiencing post-natal depression. I have had great results with this.

My clients often tell me that they feel very comfortable knowing that I am a licensed RN with a solid background in obstetrics.
